50 Ways To Relax When You’re A Busy Mom / 10 Ways To Relax With Your Kids / Foods That Relaxes and Calms

 relax

We all know that relaxation is really good for our physical and mental health. We should all take time to relax everyday. But with our busy, and sometimes crazy schedule, it’s not always easy. I’m married with two kids, have a full time job, and love to blog. That doesn’t give me a lot of time for relaxation. But if I don’t take the time to relax, I’m usually not in a good mood, and if I’m not in a good mood, there’s a good chance the rest of my family is not really happy. So I do try to take the time to relax, it’s worth it!
I made 3 different lists of easy things you can do to relax.

50 Ways To Relax When You’re A Busy Mom

1- Try to wake up 30 minutes before your family in the morning, so you can enjoy a coffee, some alone time and plan your day.
2- Take 10 minutes a day to meditate or just close your eyes and breathe.
3- Listen to music as often as you can.
4- Sing out loud.
5- Laugh as much as you can.
6- Have a nice cup of tea.
7- Hydrate your skin often with your favourite cream.
8- Garden (vegetable and flower garden)
9- Always have a nice bouquet of fresh cut flowers (I have a big garden so I always have a bouquet in my kitchen).
10- Do some yoga pause (corpse posture, sun salutation…).
11- Light candles.
12- Burn some basil essential oil (helps to calm you down).
13- Burn some incense (sandalwood).
14- Open a window and take a breath of fresh air.
15- Take a lavender  bath or bubble bath.
16- Listen to relaxing music or sounds (sea, birds…)
17- Put 2 cold green tea bags on your eyes for 10 minutes.
18- Go for a facial
19- Go for a manicure.
20- Go for a pedicure.
21- Go for an hour massage.
22- Read a book.
23- Read a magazine.
24- Watch a movie.
25- Exercise for a least 10 minutes.
26- Cook your favourite meal.
27- Do what you feel like doing, not what everyone else expects you to do.
28- Organise your pictures on your computer.
29- Have some pictures printed and make a Scrapbook.
30- Go out for supper with some friends.
31- Put your kids to bed early and prepare a nice romantic supper with your husband.
32- Put a movie on for the kids and enjoy a glass of wine.
33- Keep a journal.
34- Try to be positive, see the bright side of things.
35- Have a good night sleep.
36- Let go of guilt.
37- Organise a space that’s been bothering you for a while.
38- Take a walk.
39- Dance
40- Stretch
41- Turn your phones off…
42- Take a little nap.
43- Call a friend.
44- Follow your hearth.
45- Learn to say no.
46- Put that sunscreen on and sit in the sun.
47- Catch up on your favourite blogs.
48- Drink lots of water.
49- Take a day off work.
50- Go shopping!

10 Ways To Relax With Your Kids

1- Play a board game.
2- Draw.
3- Watch a movie.
4- Cuddle with your kids.
5- Do yoga with your kids.
6- Listen to calming music with your kids with the lights dimmed.
7- Give your kids massages and have them massage you.
8- Have an outside fire.
9- Go for a walk.
10- Read them a story.

10 Foods That Relax and Calm

1- Apricots
2- Eat lots of vegetables
3- Berries
4- Dark chocolate 70% cocoa
5- Oatmeal cookies
6- Honey
7- Have 1 glass of red wine
8- Oranges
9- Oysters
10- Walnuts

Now don’t go trying to do all this at once in order to feel more relaxed, because the only thing you’ll feel is more stressed out LOL. The reason I listed so many ways to help you relax, is so you’re able to choose some of them that are easy to incorporate into your daily routine. You can always add more as you go, or schedule some of them; like go for a massage every 2 months, go for a facial every 6 months…

Hope this helps to calm you down a little, make you feel more relaxed and a little more Zen!

Hi Caroline: these are great ideas! True — I can’t do them all at once, but even if I could do half of them I’d be way more relaxed and having fun with my kids! FWIW, I’m a huge fan of having some dark chocolate with a full bodied red wine (Zin or Cab). It’s an awesome “me” thing!

Hi Caroline! What a good reminder we all need to take a few minutes for ourselves. I need this reminder lately! I’m with Anna, I think I’m going with the wine and chocolate 😉

This is an amazing list and will be referencing in the upcoming weeks when my life starts getting just a little bit crazier with newborn twins and a toddler!

O.k. I just found out last week that you were giving birth soon and now you are telling me you are having twins!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! I’m so happy for you. I would really have liked to have twins but since it did not happen the first time, I had my kids 14 months apart. It’s pretty close!!! 🙂
