Recipe

Easy Greek Tzatziki Sauce

My family and I enjoy Greek food a lot. Our favorite family restaurant is a family owned Greek restaurant not to far from where we live.  They serve authentic Greek food that taste simply amazing, and we love their Tzatziki sauce. My kids eat everything there, from Feta, olives, taramasalata to calamari. Just talking about it makes my mouth water.

After seeing my kids eat Tzatziki sauce on everything, I’ve decided to make it at home; and my recipe turned out great! Really close to our favorite authentic Greek recipe.

Tzatziki

Ingredients

1 container (500 g.) of plain Greek yogurt (1 1/2 cup)
1/2 an English cucumber
2 cloves of garlic minced
2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
The juice of one small lemon
1 teaspoon of dry dill (you can use fresh dill if you have it on hand)
1/2 teaspoon of salt
Freshly ground pepper to taste

Directions

Put the Greek yogurt in a small bowl.
Grate the cucumber and drain by placing it on a paper towel and squeezing the liquid out. Add it to the yogurt.
Add the rest of the ingredients and stir.
Place the Tzatziki sauce in the refrigerator for 60 minutes so the flavors blend.

Serve as an appetizer with Pita Chips, cucumbers, olives, cherry tomatoes or bread. You can also serve to accompany a meal like chicken brochettes, souvlaki, meat, vegetables or potato wedges.

I’ve tried Pita bread, I’m not sure if it’s anything comparing to the chips especially when it is well toasted….
