Easy and Delicious Cheese Fondue

Well it’s the perfect time of year for a delicious Cheese Fondue. I just love cheese fondue; it’s so tasty and comforting. The recipe I’m sharing with you today takes less then 10 minutes to prepare and is absolutely amazing.

A fondue is a Swiss, Italian, and French dish of melted cheese served in a communal pot (craquelon) over a portable stove (burner), and eaten by dipping long-stemmed forks with bread into the cheese. It was promoted as a Swiss national dish by the Swiss Cheese Union (Schweizerische Käseunion) in the 1930s, and was popularized in North America in the 1960s (source Wikipedia).

Ingredients (serves 4)

2 cups of Swiss cheese, grated
2 cups of Gruyère cheese, grated
2 tablespoons of cornstarch
1 garlic clove, pealed and cut in half
1 cup of dry white wine
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Pinch of nutmeg
Fresh ground pepper to taste
Dipping food (cubed Granny smith apples, cubed pears, cubed bread, cherry tomatoes, fresh mushrooms, sweet pickled gherkins, sweet onions, grapes…)

Preparation

1- Add the Swiss and Gruyère cheese to a bowl and coat with the cornstarch.
2- Rub the inside of a fondue pot with the garlic and then discard.
3- Add the wine and lemon juice to the fondue pot and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
4- Add the cheese mixture to the fondue pot and stir until smooth.
5- Add the nutmeg and pepper.
6- Place your fondue pot on a burner and set the heat on low.
Serve with your favourite dippers!
